Barbecued Brisket

This is great for parties, I always have to hide a few pieces for the next day.  Note this is a fresh brisket not a corned one.  One of the nice things about this recipe is that you make it a day or two ahead.  Then just put it in the oven and reheat for an hour and its ready. Its a fantastic bbq sauce.

1 beef brisket  around 3lbs
½ cup water

1/2 cup  chopped onion
3 cloves  chopped garlic
1 Tab  cooking oil
¾ cup  water
1 cup  Ketchup
3 Tab  Red Wine Vinegar
2 Tab  Lemon Juice
2 Tab Brown Sugar
1 Tab  Worcestershire Sauce
2 tea  Corn Starch
1 tea  Paprika
1 tea Chili Powder
¼ tea  Salt
¼ tea  Pepper

Place brisket in a large Dutch oven.  Add 1/2 cup of water.  Cover and bake at 275 for 2 hours.

Meanwhile in a medium saucepan sauté onion and garlic in oil until tender.  Add everything else and simmer for 1/2 hour, stirring occasionally.

Drain drippings from the Dutch oven and pour the BBQ sauce over the meat.

Cover and bake for another 2 hours or until tender.

Cool, slice, reheat and serve.

Its best to let it set in the refrigerator over night so that it will be nice and firm when you slice it.  It will just fall apart if you try to slice it while its hot.  Then put it in the oven an hour or so before you are ready to serve it.
